There are many affordable rental properties located in Westmoreland County, PA.  If you meet eligibility requirements, we can help find a place for you and your family. Owning a home isn't the right answer for everyone.  If you don't have the financial means to purchase a home, you need to move frequently, or you can't afford maintenance and upkeep - then renting a home might be the right answer for you. On this website we will feature a number of participating entities and programs as they become available throughout the year.  The most current information is listed below:

Homes Build Hope, Inc.

Homes Build Hope, Inc. is a non-profit affordable housing agency that operates nearly 80 apartments, townhouses, duplex homes, and single-family homes throughout Westmoreland County, including East Vandergrift, Irwin, Jeannette, Greensburg, Latrobe, and Derry.
  • Call Homes Build Hope, Phone 724-838-0752 and talk with a housing counselor who will help determine what your housing needs are.
  • We encourage you to download a Rental Application and complete it today. You can either mail it in or drop it off at the Homes Build Hope office.
  • After Homes Build Hope receives your application, they will call you to schedule an interview and verify income.
  • After you meet the eligibility requirements, Homes Build  Hope will either find a suitable rental property or place you on a waiting list until one meeting your needs becomes available.

Mon Valley Initiative

Mon Valley Initiative’s rental portfolio in Westmoreland County includes 1 and 2 bedroom apartments in Monessen and West Newton.

In some cases, rental units are reserved for people whose income falls below 50 or 60 percent of the area median income.

Rental units vary in size, depending on their location.

Westmoreland Community Action

Westmoreland Community Action is a non-profit agency that can help you find a new home to buy or rent in Westmoreland County. The Agency offers for sale a number of new houses in revitalized neighborhoods. It also purchases homes in need of repair and rehabs them to either sell or rent to families with limited incomes. Once remodeled, the homes are often better than new, meeting current building codes, with all new appliances, heating and air conditioning, and new easy to clean finishes.

A limited number of rental properties are available through Westmoreland Community Action and are available to families meeting certain income requirements.
